Technical Director / Principal Environmental Scientist in Contaminated Sites, join a national consultancy where your technical depth actually matters. This is a role built for someone who enjoys being the technical backbone of a business – not chasing fees, but setting the standard.

You’ll step into a Sydney-based team of 50+ consultants (across 4 offices nationally), with Sydney as the engine room. The work is already there; major infrastructure, power, desalination, and complex industrial/residential sites. What’s needed is someone who can elevate capability, mentor the next layer, and ensure technical excellence across delivery.

This is less about building a pipeline and more about owning the technical direction of one.

The Role

You’ll sit at the top of the technical structure – guiding projects, reviewing outputs, and acting as the go-to for complex contaminated land challenges, and report into the Area Manager and CEO.

• Provide technical oversight across contaminated land & remediation projects
• Review and sign-off on reports to ensure quality and consistency
• Mentor grads through to seniors – lifting capability across the team
• Direct complex investigations, remediation strategies & risk assessments
• Act as a senior client interface on technically challenging work
• Support project strategy across major infrastructure and industrial portfolios

What You’ll Bring

• 15+ years in contaminated land consulting (a true technical Principal)
• Strong technical background across investigations, remediation & reporting
• Experience reviewing reports and mentoring junior staff
• EPA Auditor (or working towards), or CEnvP SC / close to accreditation level of technical desired
• Comfortable leading technical direction on complex projects
