Associate Geotechnical Engineer

ENGINEERING, Geotechnical

Melbourne, VIC

150 — 200

  • $150,000 – $200,000+ Package (depending on experience)
  • Lead a Geotechnical Team while delivering national projects
  • Melbourne | Hybrid Flexibility | National Engineering & Environmental Consultancy

Associate Geotechnical Engineer to join a national multidisciplinary consultancy at a point where the work is already there, but the local leadership capability needs to catch up.

Rather than inheriting a large, established team, you’ll step into Melbourne to lead two developing Geotechnical Engineers while leveraging a national project pipeline that’s keeping the wider business exceptionally busy. You’ll have meaningful work from day one, allowing you to focus on mentoring, building client relationships and steadily growing the Victorian capability without the pressure of having to generate immediate revenue.

The recent move to a national service-line model means you’re no longer restricted by the local market. You’ll work on major projects across South Australia, Queensland and beyond while helping establish a stronger Geotechnical presence in Victoria over time.

The Role

You’ll provide technical leadership, project delivery and client management while helping shape the future direction of the Melbourne Geotechnical business.

  • Lead and mentor two developing Geotechnical Engineers in Melbourne.
  • Deliver investigation, interpretation and geotechnical design projects across Australia.
  • Prepare proposals, tenders and technical submissions.
  • Build relationships with existing Victorian clients while leveraging strong national client networks.
  • Support multidisciplinary projects alongside Environmental, Contaminated Land, Ecology and Planning specialists.
  • Manage investigations, reporting and design across infrastructure, renewable energy, property development, power and government projects.
  • Play a key role in growing the Victorian Geotechnical capability over time.

The Team

You’ll join a Melbourne office of around 20 technical professionals operating within a much larger Australian engineering and environmental business.

Staff turnover is exceptionally low, largely because leadership genuinely invests in people and gives senior engineers the autonomy to do what they do best. The national delivery model also means you’ll never be sitting around waiting for local projects to arrive. Work is shared across offices, providing stability while allowing Melbourne to continue growing at a sensible pace.

For someone who enjoys building teams but doesn’t want the pressure of creating an entire business from scratch, it’s a genuinely balanced opportunity.

Experience

  • Around 10+ years’ consulting experience within Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Strong background across site investigations with design capability highly regarded.
  • Experience managing projects and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Comfortable preparing proposals and maintaining client relationships.
  • CPEng or working towards chartership will be highly regarded.
  • Full Australian working rights.

$150,000 – $200,000+ package depending on experience.
