Principal Geotechnical Engineer
Circa $220,000 package + sign-on bonus
Sydney preferred (Newcastle considered with regular Sydney travel)

As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, step into a national role that finally gives you the scope, visibility and responsibility that most geotechnical roles talk about but rarely deliver. This mid-tier multidisciplinary consultancy is well known for its contaminated land and environmental work and geotechnical has grown so quickly alongside it that they now need a dedicated leader to take the reins.

You’ll be the one driving geotechnical delivery across Australia, with a strong focus on NSW and a pipeline that’s already in hand. The work is wide-ranging: wind farms, solar, BESS infrastructure, transport, mining and the full suite of investigations and designs that underpin those projects. You’re not walking into an empty chair — you’re walking into a function that’s busy, in demand, and ready for someone to elevate it.

If you want to lead the national geotechnical capability, here’s the seat. If you prefer to stay more hands-on, they’re equally open. The key is owning the work and helping strengthen capability nationally.

The Role

You’ll lead the geotechnical discipline nationally while remaining hands-on with investigations and design. You’ll set technical direction, support proposal development, and shape how geotechnical integrates with contaminated sites, renewables and infrastructure projects.

You’ll work across:

• Geotechnical investigations, soil surveys and logging
• Slope stability assessments and slope design
• Retaining wall and soil nail foundation design
• Geotechnical inputs for BESS, wind and solar projects
• Integrating geotechnical and contaminated sites investigations
• Technical review + support for proposals and bid strategy
• Guiding, mentoring and supporting a national team of six

The business has strong workflow driven by environmental and contaminated land project wins, meaning geotechnical plays directly into established demand instead of relying on cold BD. The leadership team is collaborative, busy and heavily invested in this hire. You’ll have full backing to shape the team nationally and set direction in NSW.

What You’ll Bring

• 12+ years’ experience in geotechnical engineering
• Strong design capability (slopes, retaining walls, soil nails)
• Experience across investigations, reporting and project delivery
• Confidence working across renewables, infrastructure or mining projects
• Ability to guide or lead a small team nationally
• Chartered status beneficial but not essential
