Senior Associate – Medical Negligence Lawyer
Insurance Law, LAW
Melbourne, VIC
Compared to other Health Law practices, the main points of difference here are the variety of work and the lovely team culture.
The team structure is an ‘hourglass’ shape, with several experienced Partners and Special Counsels at the top and a strong group of junior lawyers for support – but no other Senior Associates. This means you’ll have the benefit of mentoring from senior practitioners, while also being able to focus on the high-value aspects of files, with a significant number of juniors available to assist on your matters.
The Partner heading up this practice has been recognised as Partner of the Year as well as Lawyer of the Year for Medical Negligence (Australia), and is also a lovely person with a reputation for being one of the best technical mentors in the field. They encourage a significant level of client contact and engagement for the team (for the running of matters, not for BD), and the team operates with a lower billable-hours-per-day target than most other firms have.
The team operates across the spectrum of Health Law work and you will have the opportunity to represent hospitals (public and private), doctors and allied health professionals across the range of litigation, disciplinary and coronial matters, while also advising those same clients on their ongoing compliance policies and assessment of their risks. If you would prefer to specialise in, say, disciplinary or civil, the role can be tailored to your preferences.
