For a Senior Associate looking to step up, this is a practice where there is a clear opportunity for progression to Partnership. The team’s growth strategy includes bringing through new leaders, and this role is positioned for someone who wants to take on a key role in the practice over the long term.

The Corporate Practice

The Corporate team is one of Australia’s busiest mid-market M&A practices, with a strong pipeline of deals and a national growth strategy. The Partners are actively involved in maintaining a collaborative and supportive culture while executing their ambitious expansion plans.

The Venture Capital & Private Equity Team

The team has an established reputation for acting on both the investor and company side of complex deals, working with private equity funds, VCs and founders navigating funding rounds and acquisitions. Many of their transactions involve high-growth companies in emerging industries, providing exposure to innovative businesses and fast-moving investment markets.

There is also a significant cross-border component to the practice, with over 30% of matters referred from the firm’s offices in the UK, EU, and the US. This is an opportunity to work on international transactions and gain experience working with global investors and businesses expanding into Australia.

The Role

Working closely with the Senior Partner and other Corporate Partners, you’ll play a key role in managing transactions from term sheet to completion. The work includes:

• Advising venture capital and private equity funds on structuring and executing investments.
• Assisting growth-stage companies through early-stage capital raises, ESOPs, and eventual exits via IPO or trade sale.
• Acting for institutional investors on private acquisitions and divestments.
• Advising on governance, shareholder arrangements, and regulatory issues affecting funds and investment vehicles.

The team is looking for a strong M&A practitioner with the ability to manage transactions with a degree of autonomy. Prior experience in venture capital or private equity transactions is beneficial but not essential. There is also an opportunity to develop sector expertise within a team that has a strong track record in the space.
